ZOMG, it’s Emma Goldman in film!eleventy!!
And lulz - the narrator introduced her as the famous ‘anarchist leader’. Clearly an expert on her social philosophy, to which he was introduced when happening upon a crowd of people mindlessly repeating her chants of ‘no gods, no leaders!’ and competing with each other to see who would slip and pat their head when she neglected to say ‘Simon says’. Aside from narrating for anarchist documentaries, he also contributes to the movement by baking cookies with non-fat shortening.

… Is it just me, or d’ya think she’d be quite pleased to know kids today protest by dancing illegally* en masse in the streets holding signs (some in crazy costumes)? :-D
Also, my saturday was totally made by this grrl wearing a stormtrooper helmet, dancing and holding a sign to the effect of ‘Stop Imperial Wars’ (in star wars-y text, i believe). [This was, incidentally, outside the white house right around the time/place Cindy Sheehan was arrested.]
* Protests now require getting a permit; like being cordoned off into a little out-of-the-way area to is the whole idea behind why concerned citizens take to the streets, or somesuch nonsense. Why the hell is freedom of speech so often used to support angry white dudes acting like ignorant douchebags, but not for vital public discussion & criticism?
Cover your wall with 100% pure awesome and support a rad artists’ cooperative with this $4 poster, if you so please. No offense to Helena Bonham-Carter (as cool as she is), but her red queen has nothing on “Red” Emma Goldman as ‘Queen of Anarchists’ (lulz @ the contradiction).
Or mail it with this $1 postcard version, instead, if you will :-)
Also, just to note, anarchism is fully compatible with pacifism, contrary to any scary mental images you may have of kids wearing all-black running around throwing bombs (which the above image may have reinforced). Unless the bombs are made of seeds … that stereotype is quite on the mark :-D
REAL wealth consists in things of utility and beauty, in things that help to create strong, beautiful bodies and surroundings inspiring to live in. but if man is doomed to wind cotton around a spool, or dig coal, or build roads for thirty years of his life, there can be no talk of wealth. what he gives to the world is only gray and hideous things, reflecting a dull and hideous existence—too weak to live, too cowardly to die. strange to say, there are people who extol this deadening method of centralized production as the proudest achievement of our age. they fail utterly to realize that if we are to continue in machine subserviency, our slavery is more complete than was our bondage to the king. they do not want to know that centralization is not only the deathknell of liberty, but also of health and beauty, or art and science, all these being impossible in a clocklike, mechanical atmosphere.
